MIM: Custom Background and Mixing Patterns

A quick stop for this week's entry for Make It Monday on Nichole Heady's blog. Danielle Flanders challenged us this week to create our own patterned papers with stamps and then mix them all together tastefully! I immediately knew I wanted tho user the newly released set, Brushed Blooms designed by the über talented genius, Betsy Veldman. I mean seriously, her designs are breathtaking and this set is quickly becoming one of my favorites!! So without further ado, here's my card:

Tag You're It Challenge

Hello and happy Tuesday to all! Today I'm sharing a tag that I made for (yes you guessed it...) the Tag You're It Challenge. I've been meaning to play along for quite some time but always for one reason or another missed the deadline. But today I'm a newbie to the challenge and excited! This week the muse/inspiration is courtesy of Marybeth Lopez.

So I was inspired by the layout, with the floral arrangement off to the right and the sentiment to the left of it. I also used the color scheme-- not the exact colors but inspired by it. I went for a brighter turquoise blue and a magenta tinged with burgundy and a study grey. Rather than adding those silver sequins I brought silver in with the glitter tape. 

 The floral arrangement was made using the newly released PTI stamp set Quilted:Spring and the beautiful script sentiment is from another new set, Bitty Bouquet.

MIM: Doodling

Another week, another quick post for PTI's Make It Monday. This week Lauren shows us how non-line stamps, watercoloring and doodling makes for a beautiful card. So, I grabbed my watercolor paper, paintbrushes and went to work. When I first purchased Painted Poinsettias I immediately noted that without the veining step, the flowers actually have the potential to look like magnolias. So, with that in mind as my chosen stamp set for this technique, I forged ahead and this is the result:

I went for fairly vibrant colors, Hawaii Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Limeade Ice and Memento's Dandelion. For the sentiment, I needed something to break up the busy background so I trimmed a 2 in piece of black cardstock and used a Pretty Pink Posh scalloped border die. Then, I cut from Hawaiian Shores cardstock the lovely, intricate sentiment using my new obsession that is the Lawn Fawn border die. 

 Some satin ribbon, enamel dots and all mounted onto a Hawaiian Shores cardstock base and we're done! The doodling was such fun and I look forward to adding this technique to my arsenal. Have a great rest of the Sunday evening!

MIM #202: Anchoring with Banners and Border Dies

I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. Just stopping by with a short but (hopefully) sweet post for PTI's MIM. This week, the marvelously talented Melissa Phillips showed us how to anchor a focal point using layers, border dies and banners. Here is my take:

Shake, Shake, Shake It: Card 2

As you can see, very similar but the polka dots were swapped out for diagonal stripes.  

 Here it is standing and I'm loving that the static electricity means some of the glitter isn't falling when up right! And finally a close-up of the shaker box, the addition of green and orange sequins brighten up the card!

More shaking...err, shakers!

I am going to go ahead and prophylactically apologize-- in my last post, I had not realized I couldn't submit each card into the challenge as it requires separate links...so my apologies for the redundancy in the next few posts. BUT, this card has not been shared yet, though it has the same layout as the other cards. Enjoy!

The patterned paper is from the Shakers and Sprinkles kit, I simply love how bright and cheerful that collection is...I wish they'd carry the patterned papers and not have it be a kit exclusive!  And considering the faux sprinkles I have in the shaker box, I thought the sentiment appropriate!

I added a glittery enamel for even more 'bling' ...I just cannot help myself! :) Now, off to post the pictures and enter this and the other shaker cards to the amazing challenge blog Virginia's View. Hope you're having a great hump day! :)

Shaker Card Set

When I first started creating these cards, it was not necessarily with a set in mind, I simply loved the design and had coordinating papers and a hefty stash...so I just kept making them. Plus, I wanted an excuse to use PTI's new Baker's Dozen stamp set, with all of those delectable and cute looking cupcakes! So here they are, and simply perfect as entries to Virginia's View Challenge, which will be closing in a matter of hours!



 While the layout of the cards after including the same each has a different cupcake and sentiment within the banner. I began with my Lawn Fawn Large Stitched rectangles-- with the largest size I cut out a white cardstock panel and with the 2nd largest rectangle cut the patterned papers. I think the stitching just adds such a finished look to a card! I stamped my cupcakes in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored them in with my Gansai Tambi watercolors, which are just absolutely breathtaking, creamy, vibrant colors! I also love that it comes with a slightly white iridescent color that can be applied on the other colors for extra shine! My shaker is filled with goodies from my PTI Shakers and Sprinkles kit.I stamped the sentiments within the banners and adhered it all tho a white card base. I just love the colors, frame...well, all of it! This post is rather lengthy and photo heavy, so grab a cuppa and get comfy! Here are the cards individually:



 With a sentiment like that, how could one resist? It also makes me think of Marie Antoinette, which makes me chuckle.

Can't get enough of these cupcakes!! I'm still waiting for my cake plate die to arrive from PTI and I look forward to implementing that into the design! 

Shake, Shake, Shaker Card

I love shaker cards, it's a fact. So, I couldn't resist this month's challenge over at the Virginia's View Challenge blog. I went decidedly clean and simple for this card:

I started by die cutting tattoo rectangle mats with my Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles, then for the top layer I die cut "happy" using PTI's Wet Paint Cuts. I then proceeded to create my shaker and filled it with sequins, glitter and faux sprinkles all from PTI'S Make It Market Kit Shakers + Sprinkles. Then I die cut various Bitty Button Stacks out of Hawaiian Shores, Hibiscus Burst and Summer Sunrise PTI cardstock. Finished it off with a single ended banner from Tag Sale (#10??) and stamped my sentiment in Hawaiian Shores ink. That's it!

PTI Anniversary: Day 7- Heavy Metal

And I'm back, this time with a challenge to use  only metals (gold or silver) and a neutral. So here's my take:

 So I started with a stamper's select white card base, matted it with a good striped patterned paper from We R Memory Keepers. Then I couldn't resist making a shaker card with gold and silver sequins!! I decided to keep it relatively simple so as to let the metallic theme shine (pun intended :).  I love how unisex this card is and may use it as my Valentine's Day card for the hubby!







 Here's a close-up of the delicious deer, created using a die from Carta Bella, a Maggie Holmes collection, I believe. That's all for now but I should be back later with more cards for the PTI Anniversary festivities! Also linking this up to Virginia's View Challenge #12: Shaker Cards.

Oh, a quick final note-- I realize the photo quality leaves quite a bit to be desired alas the weather was not conducive to spectacular photography these last few days...I'll try to take another and have that up ASAP!

PTI Anniversary Festivities- Day 1: DT Inspiration

I'm back with another card in celebration of 8 years of PTI goodness! I plan on participating in all of the challenges but at my own pace (before the deadline, of course) and out of order! Day 1 is all about deriving inspiration from the design team, this is the color scheme and sketch I chose:

 And here is my take on it, using my lovely Songbirds stamps and dies:

 I inked up the bird on the left with Raspberry Fizz and then used the rock-n-roll technique, using Memento Lady Bug (a red similar to Pure Poppy). The leaves were inked up with Pear Tart and once again for added depth and interest rolled into Bamboo Leaves (both also from Memento as a replacement for the PTI colors).

 This "love" sentiment was die cut from Raspberry Fizz cardstock using a Carta Bella die. The two panels were popped up with dimensional adhesive on to a Simply Chartreuse card base, which was accented with stitching using my Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles die set. The enamel dots were the perfect finish!

 On the birds, to add even more depth and interest I took a deeper green colored pencil and added some shading to the leaves and a white gel pen accented the flower on the buyer bird. Well that's it...thanks for stopping by and spending a portion of your day with me!
